Teaching & Learning

The SNIS K–12 curriculum uses a variety of engaging teaching and learning methodologies that challenge and motivate learners to excel. It focuses on nurturing the knowledge and skills essential for success in the 21st century.

How children learn at SNIS

Inquiry-based and application-oriented approaches across all subjects and age groups enable students to learn about and respect a range of ideas, independently and collaboratively. It helps them develop new perspectives and take responsibility for their learning.

Kindergarten Programme

A fun-filled, safe and happy environment that grows curiosity, exploration and discovery.

An individualised approach helps nurture a love of learning, develop social skills and instil moral values. The emphasis is on developing self-confidence and the ability to communicate effectively in English as well as in the mother tongue. Teachers ensure this through effective use of language and by encouraging children to express themselves freely.

A well-balanced curriculum and theme-based instruction help young minds integrate their learning smoothly. The emphasis is on exploring, knowing, understanding and forming their own ideas. The curriculum prepares children for a smooth transition to a more formal Primary curriculum.

Games, songs, creative projects, story-telling, role-playing, drawing and painting build foundational literacy and numeracy. Dance, music, art and craft, the Phonics Programme, manipulatives, sports, picnics, field trips and festival celebrations complete the week.

Classes I to V

Primary School Programme

Inquiry and exploration that grow competence in reading, writing, listening, speaking, problem-solving, observation, measurement and ICT.

The Primary School curriculum is a blend of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) and the ICSE Programme. It offers an exciting and creative learning environment, with an inter-disciplinary appreciation of Languages, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Hindi is taught as a Second Language and helps build a strong foundation in Indian languages.

Equal emphasis is given to individual, small-group and whole-group activities. Physical Education develops sports skills and health awareness. Field trips, excursions, projects and presentations provide experiential learning. Dance, Fine Arts, Western and Indian Music, Yoga, Speech and Drama promote well-rounded development.

Students’ engagement in community service from Class III onwards sensitises them to the needs of their community. They visit old-age homes and orphanages to understand those situations and to support underprivileged children.

Classes VI to VIII

Middle School Programme

Structured for varied intellectual and developmental needs — building on Primary concepts with continuous evaluation and review.

The curriculum is a blend of CCE and the ICSE Programme. The main aims are developing skills related to writing, reading, reflecting, critical thinking and public speaking, and fostering initiative and a desire to acquire knowledge.

Academic subjects include English, Hindi, Physical Education, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography. Art, Drama, Computer Studies, Music, Yoga and Dance are integrated into the mainstream curriculum and strengthened as optional co-curriculars.

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) addresses age-specific interests and promotes compassionate, ethical conduct. Physical Education becomes more formal so students can pursue sports in a structured way — including as a formal subject later. The Integration Project showcases knowledge across subjects and prepares students for inter-disciplinary work.

Classes IX and X · CISCE

ICSE Programme

From basic facts to detailed understanding — through interpretation, evaluation, projects and application.

It aims to empower children to contribute towards a humane, just and pluralistic society, and to promote introspective living.

Class VIII serves as a preparatory year. Students study English as the First Language, Hindi as the Second Language, and Mathematics, History, Civics and Geography, Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), Environmental Science and Computer Studies as core subjects.

School trips, Dance, Drama, Fine Arts, Western and Indian Music, Yoga, the National Children Science Congress (NCSC), inter-house events and community service sit alongside academics. For more details, visit www.cisce.org.
